We are pleased to announce the winner of the People's Choice Award at the Open Art Exhibition 2022 is Kirsten Todd with her beautiful painting, 'The Divine Feminine - Clear Vision'.
Kirsten Todd
Kirsten describes painting and art as her passion, her first love since being a small child. Lancashire born and bred, she grew up with her uncle, also an artist, who was her biggest influence and mentor.
After gaining a degree in graphic design at art college, she went on to have a 30-year career in the graphic design industry, whilst continuing to paint. For the past 4 years she has been concentrating fully on painting professionally. Kirsten specialises in portraits and abstracts working intuitively with an expressionist style and works mainly in acrylics. She has shown her work in various group and solo exhibitions around the UK and gained a couple of emerging artist awards.
Kirsten says she has always felt the drive to paint and create. She says that creating art is a release, a freedom, entering an altered state or reality, as she becomes in flow and in tune with the colour, paint and canvas, bringing a connection to the Divine and all that is. She says, it is as if she is in divine flow as the piece of work is developed and the creation is born. She feels that art has taken her on so many wonderful journeys of discovery and is continually helping her to expand emotionally and spiritually.
Kirsten describes herself as an intuitive medium, channelling energy directly through her body which is then imbued into the painting as she works, putting a piece of herself and the energy needed into every piece. Whether it be a glimmer of her own vulnerability and seeing herself laid bare in the expression of a piece, or healing, strength, and joyous energy, she strives to give the recipient the energy or healing they need through suggestions of colour, to bring them balance, albeit on a subconscious level.
Within her paintings Kirsten says she strives to capture the energy needed for the piece, vibrancy, strength, balance and beauty. She says she strives to be heard through her work, speaking her unique truth and empowering others through her art.
